anyway we’ve seen this a hundred times before. the conservative communities that produce this sort of overcompensation in self-loathing gay dudes (such that they become outspokenly anti-gay themselves in hopes that nobody will notice or that they’ll be able to cure themselves) aren’t going to be changed by the outing of someone Within Their Ranks, even prominent leaders being revealed to have had homosexual relationships doesn’t make them rethink their prejudices, they just see it as a personal failing of those particular leaders.

these are communities that have solutions for this already: conversion therapy, the narrative of the backslider who is saved by jesus for real this time, etc. etc.

without any other alternative community or support system these people go right back to the closet and continue, as a condition of their survival, to participiate in systemic homophobia and violence against other lgbt folks.

but hey at least some “well-meaning” liberals got a laugh out of it
