Once a user agrees to the EULA, which probably includes some kind of disclaimer that you don’t own the game, but instead a license to play it - and this is how all proprietary software works - and that because of this that license is able to be revoked if you don’t follow rules set out in advance by the developer. Basically what I’m saying is Richard Stallman told you guys about proprietary software but you didn’t listen. You made your bed, now lie in it.
When trans people say “respect our pronouns” we are not just asking you to shift your language, we are asking you to shift an entire paradigm around sex, gender, and race. It’s not enough to change one word when we are asking for the end of an entire worldview.
What we are saying is not just “this word makes me feel good,” but rather I demand the right to narrate my body and my history on my own terms in a system that is predicated on categorizing, containing, and criminalizing me.
When we say “respect” what we mean is fight like hell for me. What we mean is I wasn’t just assigned this gender at birth, I am non-consensually gendered every day and what are you going to do about that?
This is not an opportunity to be politically correct, this is an opportunity to stop being incorrect.
1. Freddie Gray, who had 80% of his spine severed at his neck? No. the other one.
2. You mean Trayvon Scott, who in February died in a police holding cell without any explanation? No. the other one.
3. You mean Tyrone West, who despite never committing a crime, was beaten to death in an abandoned lot last year, and Baltimore refused to release the autopsy? No. the other one.
4. You mean George King, who was tased 5 times in 10 minutes while laying in a hospital bed, suffering from meningitis? No. the other one.
5. You mean Anthony Anderson, whose death was determined a homicide by the state’s medical examiner after being brutally beaten by police?
it’s always funny to me that whites can sit in their little history classes and learn about the civil rights movement and be like “wow these people were so brave! the police and other white people were so evil back then :(” but then sit here today and call the baltimore protesters or the ferguson protesters “animals” for doing literally the same thing. Like you are the “racist white people” now. You are the the ones you deny affiliation with while reading those lessons. whites are so good at detaching themselves from their own white supremacy and erasing their crimes.
